ODZ means out of the delivery zone and while this is not a common case, there are still cases of ODZ when we ship our orders. In this post, I will show you how you can avoid that or at least try to avoid it using Shopify’s new feature.
At this point, I am sure everyone already saw that we now have a dropdown for all the 86 regions or at least 86 listed regions on the Shopify platform and this field was rolled out automatically and we cannot remove it. While that is frustrating, We can use it to try to solve the ODZ problems. You see, we cannot disable the regions but we can choose which regions we want to ship to. That can be a win for us.
So how do we do this? It is basically simple. We go to the shipping rules and we will choose what region we want to ship to under the Philippines domestic settings. Let me show you step by step how to do this.
Step 1: Go to settings > shipping and delivery. You need to be logged in to Shopify to do this. See the screenshot below.
Step 2: Once you are on the shipping page, Go to manage rates and then edit the rates. I know we all have our rates. We don’t need to edit it. See the screenshot below.
Step 3: Once you open the managed rate, You should have or see your shipping zones and rates. Now besides your shipping zone, Click on the triple horizontal dots and select “edit zone”. See the screenshots below.
Step 4: Click on the edit zone and a pop up will show. Now you can search for “Philippines”, Once it shows up, you can click on the regions to see the list of regions. Now, you can uncheck the boxes on provinces you do not want to ship to. Once you are done, You can save it.
That is it. Now, no one can order if they choose the provinces or regions you have excluded. I hope this helps you avoid ODZ areas.
There are a lot of good things we can do with the region feature. Personally, i do not like it a lot but I think it can help with little tweaks on the checkout page especially with shipping.
This is applicable to both OJMD dropshippers and non OJMD dropshippers. For OJMD dropshippers, we have our own list of ODZ areas. If you have not seen it, you can see the list
Try it out and let me know if it works for you. Leave a comment if you have any questions.
